In the very keen effort to internationalization, Faculty of Geography, Universitas Gadjah Mada currently accommodates some foreign students activities. In Postgraduate Doctoral Program, Faculty of Geography had just conducted final examination for Pramaditya Wicaksono, a staff member of Faculty Geography who conducted a joint supervision for his Doctoral Program, between Universitas Gadjah Mada and Institute for Technology and Resource Management in the Tropics and Subtropics, Cologne University of Applied Science, Germany. His worked entitled “Remote Sensing Model Development for Seagrass and Mangroves Carbon Stock Mapping”. Promoted by Prof. Dr. Hartono DEA, DESS and Dr. Projo Danoedoro, M.Sc from UGM and Dr. Udo Nehren also Prof. Lars Ribe from CUAS, he was able to defend his argument on the importance of remote sensing for detecting seagrass and mangrove in his research area. He is able to conduct Joint Doctoral Program between UGM – CUAS, using 3 months program at CUAS (2010 and 2013).
Scholarship
Chiba. TWINCLE (Twin College Envoys) Program is a short course program that held by Ministry of Education Japan and Chiba University, Japan. There are four students from Faculty of Geography, Universitas Gadjah Mada, who have the opportunity to attend to this program in the beginning of 2015. The program held in Chiba University, Japan, from January 19 untill February 4, 2015. Those four students are Adam Abraham Wiwaha, Hani Hidayah, Eka Dyana, and Umar El-Izudin.
Rio de Janeiro. Four outstanding graduate students from Master Program on Planning and Management of Coastal Area and Watershed (MPPDAS) faculty of Geography UGM visited Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for Joint Student Project (JSP). This Joint Student Project lasted for 1 week (16—24 August 2014). The fortunate students are Wahyu Tyas Pramono, Hendy Fatchutohman, Annisa Hamidah, and Alfiatun Nur accompanied by two lecturers, who are Bachtiar Wahyu Mutaqin, S.Kel., M.Sc. And Dr.rer.nat M. Anggri Setiawan, M.Sc. Together with students from the host university, Institute of Geosciences, Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF) Niteroi Brazil, and 5 students from Universidad Autonoma de San Luis Potosi, Mexico, they had a research in the topic of Urban growth in the Rio de Janeiro coastal area. This activity is also included in the consortium of Center for Natural Resources and Development (CNRD) consists of 11 institutions from Asia, Latin America, Europe and Africa.
Yogyakarta- Magister Perencanaan Pengelolaan Pesisir dan Daerah Aliran Sungai (MPPDAS) Fakultas Geografi Universitas Gadjah Mada bekerjasama dengan CNRD (Center of Naural Resources and Development) mengadakan riset bersama di daerah Dieng Wonosobo dalam program Joint Student Programe (JSP) dan One Day seminar yang bertemakan Ecosystem-based Disaster Risk Reduction (Eco-DRR). Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh mahasiswa program Beasiswa Unggulan (BU) Kemdikbud, MPPDAS Fakultas Geografi UGM, Cologne University of Applied Sciences, Jerman dan Tribhuvan University, Nepal.

Pernyataan Presiden RI pertama ini nampaknya sangat nyata Sabtu, 7 April 2012 yang lalu dalam acara Seminar ““Leader Forum and Awarding Ceremony of Beasiswa Unggulan for Master Program”. Acara ini diselenggarakan oleh Magister Perencanaan dan Pengelolaan Pesisir dan Daerah Aliran Sungai (MPPDAS) Fakultas Geografi UGM bekerja sama dengan Beasiswa Unggulan-Biro Perencanaan dan Kerjasama Luar Negeri, Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan (BU-BPKLN KEMENDIKBUD).
Together with the CNRD partners a PhD program will be designed and initiated. PhD students should be embedded in third party funded research at the CNRD partners. A maximum of nine students per year will get a three year scholarship. All research topics must be related to MDG 7. Students will join two common phases in Germany of five months each (one in the first year and the other in the third year).
