Faculty of Geography, Universitas Gadjah Mada receives the delegation from College of Liberal Arts, National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) on August 26, 2019. This visit was part of the preparation for the implementation of the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) by the Faculty of Geography, Universitas Gadjah Mada. On this occasion, NTNU sent 6 representatives from each department at the College of Liberal Art, NTNU including Prof. Chiou-Lan CHERN, Prof. Shew-Jiuan SU, Prof. Tsung-Yi LIN, Prof. Tsan-Shan CHENG, Prof. Jing-Lan WU, and Prof. Tsong-Han LEE. This meeting discussed the plan of collaboration between the two institutions in preparing the education curriculum to be delivered in the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) in 2020. One of the closest plans that will be done to achieve the goal of internationalization is to send delegation from UGM to NTNU for several weeks in the framework of an introduction the education curriculum. International exposure in setting targeted program is expected provide an adequate graduates who are able to face global challenges with a several of international experiences both in terms of education, research, and community service. Strategies to gain international experiences that have been owned later will produce qualified human resources with a competitive spirit and high competitiveness in the global platform.

Faculty of Geography, Universitas Gadjah Mada together with partner universities incorporated into the Centers for Natural Resources and Development (CNRD), successfully held the sixth IMaREC workshop on 12-15 August 2019. The workshop participants consisted of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia; Ain Sham University (ASU), Egypt; TH Köln, Germany; Kenyatta University (KU), Kenya and Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí (UASLP), Mexico. The purpose of this activity is to discuss the curriculum of the master’s program at each university that is incorporated into IMaREC. The curriculum discussion of this master’s program aims to accommodate students who are interested in taking courses at partner universities.

Faculty of Geography, Universitas Gadjah Mada has been invited to participate to the Ecosystem-based Disaster Risk Reduction (EcoDRR) Program Inception Workshop conducted at Morrissey Hotel Jakarta, from 20 to 21 June 2019. This Inception Workshop was conducted collaboratively between Partners for Resilience, Wetlands International, and United Nation Environmental Program and funded by the European Union. The objectives of the workshop are (i) to provide an overview of Eco-DRR/Integrated Risk Management and plans for up scaling; (ii) to capture information regarding important things to be consider and do in implementing activities; and (iii) to explore synergies in mainstreaming EcoDRR/IRM up scaling. The participants range from international, national even local organizations (i.e. UNEP, Wetlands International, FAO, ITPC, and Care International), ministries and national institutions (i.e. KKP, BNPB, Kemendesa) as well as universities (IPB and UGM).

The Faculty of Geography, Universitas Gadjah Mada has privileged to join the international workshop conducted at Vietnam Academy for Water Resource, Hanoi, Vietnam. The international workshop is an extended activity promoted by Center for Natural Resource Development (CNRD) and DAAD, engaged among multi parties such as ITT (Germany), UGM (Indonesia), IUB (Bangladesh), IAT (Thailand), ADPC and many local stakeholders at Vietnam.

My name is Rainey Windayati. I am a master student in Planning and Management of Coastal Area and Watershed (MPPDAS), Faculty of Geography, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. I have got chance to study abroad at Georg-August-University of Goettingen, Germany during the winter semester on  the  joint  master program in Food Security and Climate Change (MSFSCC). The one-semester mobility MSFSCC program is very well organized by SEARCA and Agrinatura. It was awarded funding by the ERASMUS+ program under its Capacity Building for Higher Education component.

Departemen Sains Informasi Geografi mengadakan kuliah umum bertemakan ““DIGITAL SOIL MAPPING and PROXIMAL SENSING”, dengan pembicara Profesor Budiman Minasny & Kanika Singh, Professor dan Peneliti di bidang “Soil-landscape Modelling” dari School of Life & Environmental Sciences, Sydney Institute of Agriculture, The University of Sydney. Kuliah umum ini dibuka oleh Kepala Departmen Sains Informasi, Bapak Dr. Muhammad Kamal.

 On Tuesday, 9th April 2019, Sanjay Pyare, Ph.D, an Associate Professor from University of Alaska (USA) and Fulbright Scholar has an opportunity to visit Faculty of Geography, Universitas Gadjah Mada. He delivers a guest lecture about Seabird migration areas and coastal conservation-area planning across Indonesia. He investigate the Aleutian tern and its remarkable migration between Indonesia and Alaska, as well as study the role of coastal Indonesia ecosystems in seabird-migration patterns globally using GIS technology by applying geo-tracking data mapping method. His research as well related to the GIS-supported landscape assessments, Ground Truthing GIS and remotely sensed resources, landscape connectivity, habitat modeling and animal (especially Aleutian species) dispersal and movement, aquatic-terrestrial-marine interactions, hands-on and experiential education, and supporting the information needs of resource management.

HISAS (The 16th Hokkaido Indonesian Student Association Scientific) merupakan salah satu scientific meeting yang diselenggarakan atas kerjasama Indonesian Embassy Tokyo, PPI Hokkaido, Djarum Foundation, dan Kitagas. HISAS 16 mencoba untuk menjembatani keinginan peneliti dalam memberikan kontribusi masa depan bangsa dengan tema manajemen kebencanan di Indonesia. Dalam pertemuan ini, semua peserta yang sebagian besar adalah peneliti muda dari sudut pandang yang berbeda akan bertukar ide dan pengalaman penelitian untuk mempromosikan solusi yang lebih baik untuk pembangunan Indonesia. Para finalissepuluhbesarpadasetiap sub-tema yang telah mensubmit akan mempresentasikan hasil penulisannya di acara HISAS 16 ini yang bertempat di Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Jepang pada tanggal 16 Maret 2019. Delegasi Mahasiswa Fakultas Geografi yang lolos finalis paper 10 besar yaitu Team 1 (Novia Ismayuni, Fikri Nurrachman Ernawan, Novanda Nurul A. P., dan Yolla Yulianda) dengan judul Capacity Assessment to Face Flood Disaster in Sidoarjo using Quantitative Method, dan Team 2 (Achmad Rofi’I dan Dyah Luhmayang Sari Rahmaningsih) dengan judul Participatory Web Map for Refugee Camp Mapping of Earthquake and Tsunami in Palu Donggala, Indonesia. Tujuan ikut berpartisipasinya mahasiswa Fakultas Geografi, Universitas Gadjah Mada dalam kegiatan ini yaitu untuk mengkomunikasikan kemajuan penelitian di bawah kerangka kerja keberlanjutan (sustainability frame work) dan bertukar pikiran di seluruh wilayah multidisiplin, memberikan kontribusi bagi pembangunan Indonesia saat ini, meningkatkan jaringan dan kerjasama antara masyarakat Indonesia dan Internasional, dan mewakili Fakultas Geografi, Universitas Gadjah Mada dan Indonesia dalam konferensi internasional. Kegiatan yang dilakukan pada tanggal 16 Maret 2019, pukul 07.30-19.00 (local time) antara lain seminar, presentasi paper, dan Networking and Sharing Session. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh 41 Team lolos submit dari total submit paper sebanyak 150 team dari 27 universitas. Kegiatan ini sangatlah bermanfaat baik secara akademik maupun non akademik. Diharapkan dengan mengikuti kegiatan ini, delegasi Mahasiswa Fakultas Geografi UGM dapat memperkaya informasi dan mengembangkan ilmu dalam penelitian di Indonesia serta ditingkat internasional.

Three students of the Faculty of Geography UGM participated in the Twin College Envoys (TWINCLE) Program which was held for 12 days from February 8^th – 20^th at the Faculty of Education, Chiba University, Japan. This program is a short course held by Chiba University in collaboration with several universities in Southeast Asia, include Universitas Gadjah Mada through the Faculty of Geography UGM. Three students participated were Kirana Putri Prastika (Geography and Environmental Sciences 2015), Intan Lestari (Cartography and Remote Sensing 2015), and Haddad Al Rasyid Sukawan (Regional Development 2016).

(9/01) The third day of Summer Course Pathways towards Sustainable Futures was about field activity. Before the field activity began, Terry and Robin gave a short lecture about “Design Inspiration”. This short lecture aimed to give the participants an idea of how to carry out field activity by finding the problem and giving a solution. They also gave an example of a park design in Netherlands as the basis of this field activity.
