Dr. Christopher Gomez, a researcher-lecturer from Kobe University, visited the Faculty of Geography under the lecturer exchange program funded by World Class University UGM from 15th to 30th of October 2017.
During his visit, he conducted different activities such as Workshop, General Lecture, Guest Lecture and Meeting for potential collaboration in the future as well as fieldwork supervision for Indonesian PhD students who are pursuing their PhD in University of Canterburry where Dr. Gomez worked previously. The General Lecture was conducted on October 16, 2017 entitled “21st Century Challenges in East-Asia between Population Transition and Climate Change: What Role for Geosciences”. This general lecture was attended by more than 50 participants including lecturers, undergraduate and post-graduate students.
Guest lecture on Ethics of Disaster Risk and Disaster Risk Research was conducted on October 24, 2017 under the bachelor course Disaster Management supervised by Prof. Dr. Muh Aris Marfai and Dr. Dyah Rahmawati Hizbaron. On October 26, 2017, a workshop on Scientific Writing in English was conducted in order to help researchers-lecturers and students who are willing to submit their publication to international journal to understand the point-of-view of the reviewer, the editor and the publisher and to learn to be more efficient at writing and reading scientific papers.
Further possible collaboration on education and research as well as community services was also discussed during the meeting with three departments at the Faculty of Geography.
