The 2nd International Conference on Science and Technology (2nd ICST) hosted by Universitas Gadjah Mada successfully carried out at Eastparc Hotel, Yogyakarta, Indonesia in October 27 – 28th 2016. At this occasion, 2nd ICST covered larger symposia topics which includes, Bio-Prospecting, Computer Science, Nano-Science, and Chemistry, Physics and Its Application, and Geo-Maritime. The main idea of this activity is to provide a platform to the researchers and practitioners from both academia as well as industry to meet and share cutting-edge progress in the fields of science and technology. The main target of the conference are graduate students, especially PhD students, are welcomed to submit their thesis works. At least 180 papers are submitted to the conference this year.
Geo-maritime was one of the most prominent ideas contributed by Indonesian Geographer Association to support current Indonesian Development Policy. In line to the idea, Prof. Dr. Muh Aris Marfai – Dean of Faculty Geography – shared ideas and thoughts within the opening ceremony, entitled “ Geo-Maritime: Mainstreaming Maritime Paradigm in Archipelagic Countries”. Expert from Fac. of Geography, Prof. Dr. M. Baiquni led the discussion during the first day plenary session. Meanwhile, M Kamal, PhD and Ratih Fitria, PhD had also contributed as moderators during panel sessions on the first and second day.
The scientific board within the program involved Prof. Dr. Hartono, DEA, DESS, Prof. Dr. Sudarmadji, Wirastuti Widyatmanti, PhD and Agung Satriyo, M.Si. Partaking the conference, Symposia Geo-Maritime was chaired by Dr. Dyah Rahmawati Hizbaron, M.T, M.Sc and co-chaired by Dr. Estuning Tyas Wulan Mei. There are 21 participants within the symposia, which are distributed into several sub topics, such as Maritime Resource, Maritime Infrastructure, Maritime Border, Maritime Energy, Maritime Logistics, Maritime National Defense, Maritime Geo Politics and Coastal and Small Islands.
