Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Faculty of Geography, Universitas Gadjah Mada have great opportunity to welcome delegation from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). The delegation consisted of 11 undergraduate students equipped with ranging events, which mostly accommodated in Faculty of Geography at 16th – 17th July 2014. As this delegation manage to arrange period of visit from 15th – 21st July 2014, with series of field visit agenda. The main agenda of this delegation is to establish communication among institution, by initiating student alternative program to visit Yogyakarta, as a comparison field study. The main interest is actually related with various physical features presented in Yogyakarta, which are quite different with characteristics of Sabah.
The Malaysia-UGM summer course has been started since 2010, when eleven students from University of Malaysia visited UGM for summer course in a month (1—28 June 2010). The summer course program between UGM and University of Malaysia was purposed to achieve collaboration in education through student exchange between two institutions.
The welcoming ceremony which took place at Ruang Sidang 1 Faculty of Geography on 16th July 2014 comprised from series of agenda such as, welcome speech and introduction to Student Executive Board from Faculty of Geography.
Prof Dr. R. Rijanta – Dean of Faculty of Geography, Dr. Mohammad Tahir Mapa – representative from UMS, and Dr. Dyah Rahmawati Hizbaron – Secretary of Bureau of International Research and Cooperation Faculty of Geography gives welcome speeches at welcoming ceremony. The Faculty of Geography also initiated two general lecture programs, presented by Nur Muhammad Farda, M.Sc entitled “The Application of Remote Sensing and GIS in Disaster Management” and “Geographical Aspects of Yogyakarta” presented by Dr. Dyah Widyastuti, MCP. This delegation also guided in a campus tour program by Student Executive Board.
