In order to realize an international research faculty, the Faculty of Geography is committed to build a research collaboration with various countries intensively and sustainably. The realization of the seriousness of the Faculty of Geography is shown in the development of international cooperation networks in the form of 1) joint research currently undertaken by various universities in Europe, 2) supervision of foreign students either bachelor degree, post graduate degree and doctoral degree and 3) conducting seminars and workshops with partner universities . One form of the realization of international research collaboration is organizing a workshop entitled “International collaborative research” is followed by at least five foreign universities, among others: Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne (France), University of the Philippines Diliman (Philippines), University of Deusto in Bilbao Spain (Spain), Cologne University of Applied Science (Germany) and Leopold Franzen Universität (Austria). This workshop aims to accommodate the dissemination of research topics for Master’s and Doctoral students from five university.
Various research themes presented by the eight Masters and Doctoral students in the workshop was primarily related to the topic of disaster, climate change and natural resource management. One of Post Graduate student from Spain present her research theme ‘Improving Humanitarian Assistance: Facing Problems through Case Evaluation: The Impact of the Tsunami Response on Local Capacities’, which focuses on the role of NGOs in the tsunami emergency response. Spanish student is supervised by Dr. Djati Mardiatno currently an apprentice at the School of Geography through the Erasmus program. In addition, two French students doctoral degree is currently researching on the evaluation of disaster evacuation route and the vulnerability of the Merapi Volcano surrounding communities to the danger that threatened. The two French students is supervised by Prof. Dr. Franck Lavigne, facilitated by a consortium of the European Union. Students in the Southeast Asian countries are also not left behind in presenting the theme of his research. Under the supervise of Dr. Danang Sri Hadmoko, a Masters student from the University of the Philippines Diliman, Philippines examines the role of local wisdom of communities around Merapi in disaster management. Students were facilitated by the Asian Foundation, which is one of the scholarships are intended for young researchers who want to research the countries in Southeast Asia.
