On Thursday 31st May 2018, Bureau of International Affairs, Faculty of Geography held a student talk that presents 3 foreign students from Humboldt University German and Radboud University Netherland. This event took place in E building of Faculty of Geography on 5th floor.
Khai Phung, the graduate student from Humboldt Universität Zu Berlin, presented his research about “Ontologies of Spatial and Developmental Planning in the Case of Yogyakarta.” He interviewed the stakeholder of Desa Mangunan and some of the government agencies. His research found out that the legal system in Indonesia did not produce spatial product and development planning. There are some obstacle during his research such as the meeting schedules and language barrier.
The second presenter is Sandra Woudsma, the undergraduate student from University of Nijmegen. She presented her research entitled “Living in the Muslim-majority, the social wellbeing of the Christian minority across from the Islam: A case study in Yogyakarta.” She talked about “how people point of view about the changes of Indonesia in term of tolerance in religion”, and she found out from the interview that the student Christian-minority feel a little bit scared to express the religion practice and discriminated because sometimes they hard to find room for their meeting.
The last presenter is Thera Phiening, the undergraduate student from University of Nijmegen, The Netherland. She presented her research about “Migration of rural to urban areas influences the self-empowerment of female migrants in Yogyakarta.” She talked about the implementation of woman empowerment through a program called “Desa Prima Program” that conduct by one of the government agency, The BPPM (Badan Pemberdayaan Perempuan dan Masyarakat), Women and Community Empowerment Agency. After the implementation of this program, they found out that the women income and role increased, they did not only doing household work.
