In this Disaster Risk Reduction Education Series (DRR-Edu Series), we bring the theme “Ecosystem-based Disaster Risk Reduction (Eco-DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation: Context, Approach and Praxis” with the title: Continuing Eco-DRR Platform in the Era of Covid-19 Pandemic. This event is one of webinar series conducted collaboratively between Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand; Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia; Keio University, Japan; Miyagi University of Education, Japan; Andalas University, Indonesia; under ProSPER.net consortium.
The importance of Eco-DRR gained its attention since alternative solution towards Disaster Management should not be limited to human-capital management within emergency, but also expanded into natural-capital management before and after disaster occurrences. The shifting paradigm within disaster management from reactive to responsive is another thing to consider. Rather than focus upon reactivation of emergency management, it is an alternative to consider better response towards any ecosystem problem occurs on daily basis. The technical engineering and social engineering within our ecosystem entitled a very great deal for future ecosystem management, and it should be established from now on. Unfortunately, such idea has not yet clearly defined into a conceptual framework, thus collective thought in Eco-DRR may contribute to better Eco-DRR practice globally.
The webinar is open to public. In addition to ProSPER.Net member universities, educators, policymakers, students and beyond can participate in the webinar with free of charge but the pre-registration is required with no fee as well.
