On Monday, 16 April 2018 Prof. Ryota Nagasawa, P.hD from Landscape Ecology and GIS Laboratory , Tottori University Japan conducted a guest lecture on Remote Sensing Application for Agriculture : Introducing some case study in Java. This lecture was held at E Building on 5th floor and attended by more than 60 students coming from undergraduate, master and doctorate level. Prof. Nagasawa discuss about remote sensing application for agriculture specially for the application of satellite remote sensing technology to monitoring paddy rice cultivation (to know the current situation of paddy rice cultivation and improve the accuracy of agricultural statistics).
He also talked about the spatial distribution characteristics of the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and the Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) values obtained using a temporal Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data, and also talked about a cropping calendar by administering an interview survey to paddy farmers and elucidated the effects of the difference in the amount of rainfall on the seasonal variation of paddy rice cultivation patterns in Java Island.
