The Provincial Government of North Kalimantan through the Provincial Bappeda proposed Tailor Made Training (TMT) activity in cooperation with the Faculty of Geography, Universitas Gadjah Mada and the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation, University of Twente, the Netherlands. This TMT entitled GIS Applications for Spatial Planning and Regional Development in the New Province of North Kalimantan. The training, which was held on November 6 to 17, 2017, received support from StuNed NUFFIC NESO (Netherlands Education Support Offices) Indonesia.
The TMT activity aims to improve the skills and knowledge of staff members of relevant agencies, who have roles and responsibilities in regional planning, including for spatial planning and regional development. The two weeks training was held by inviting two lecturers, namely Dr. J. (Johannes) Flacke and Ir. M.J.G. (Mark) Brussels, from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and Geo-Information Management, University of Twente.
There are 18 trainees coming from 11 institutions in Kaltara Province (Bappeda of North Kalimantan Province, Forestry Office, Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency, Environment Agency) and 7 young staffs from the Faculty of Geography UGM. The training comprises several courses on the use of GIS tools and methods to support regional planning: spatial planning, ArcGIS and spatial data organization, suitability analysis, participatory planning and collaborative mapping.
During the TMT, visits to Bappeda Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta and the laboratory of Management of Infrastructure and Community Development at UGM Graduate School were also conducted.
