From September 16th until October 7th, 2017, the Department of Environmental Geography Universitas Gadjah Mada, more specifically, the Laboratory of Environmental Geomorphology and Disaster Mitigation hosted an expert from Senior Experten Service (SES) Program, Prof. Dr. Thomas G. Schlueter. This program, coordinated by Foundation of German Industry for International Cooperation, gives an opportunity to senior experts from any background study to deliver their knowledge to a far-reaching public.
Prof. Thomas G. Schlueter (70 yo), as one of the professors from Swaziland University, South Africa, had been chosen by SES Program to be hosted by Department of Environmental Geography according to the request for a geochronologist and paleo-environment geologist. His background as a geologist and being attached to Department of Geography, Environmental Science, and Planning in Swaziland University for 40 years lecturing which fits on the request from the Department of Environmental Geography UGM.
During his stay in UGM, Prof. Thomas G. Schlueter and Department of Environmental Geography, guided by the Unit of International Affairs Faculty of Geography Universitas Gadjah Mada conducted different activities for improving the current state of the Department and its human resources.
The series of activities was started by mapping the Department conditions, its lectures and expertise as well as discussing the next agenda for the coming week.
Workshop on Scientific Publication Writing Method was conducted and participated by not only lecturers of the Department but also post graduate students. This activity is aimed to improve both quality and quantity of international scientific publications of lecturers and student.
Other activity which is workshop on Geomedicine (Fig.2) was also conducted not only by the Department of Environmental Geography Faculty of Geography Universitas Gadjah Mada but also by both Department of Geological Engineering in Universitas Gadjah Mada and in Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran invited Prof. Schlueter. This activity shows that during his stay, not only the Department of Environmental Geography benefits of the SES Program, but also to other institutions.
