Modern – Didactic Techniques: Problem Based Learning Workshop

The Faculty of Geography, once again attending the international workshop in Vietnam. Vietnam Academy for Water Resource has initiated the Modern Didactic Techniques on Problem Based Learning (PBL) Workshop. The objectives of the program are: 1) provide participants with theoretical foundations of Problem Based Learning (PBL) technique and 2) application with basic skills for successfully tutoring PBL groups, support students’ learning in PBL education and tools to support students’ learning in tutorial work. The program is supported by Center for Natural Resource Development (CNRD).

The program includes colleagues from Germany, Bangladesh, Nepal, Indonesia and Vietnam within the 3 days activities. Carried out in Vietnam Academy for Water Resources (VAWR), Hanoi Vietnam, at June 18th -20th 2016. Faculty of Geography, herewith represented by Dr. Rika Harini (Head of Environmental Geography Department and Dr. Dyah Rahmawati Hizbaron (Head of Bureau International Cooperation and Research, Faculty of Geography). Their contribution could be interlinked with the international accreditation process undergone by Department of Environmental Geography via ASIIN Accreditation 2016.

The PBL Learning Workshop mainly discussed on the importance of implementing modern learning via Problem Based Learning which now has been promoted by Universitas Gadjah Mada. The three days program, comprised from introduction of participant, and series of insightful material delivered at day 1. Day 2 consisted of large group works activities whereas participant could interact freely to share teaching experience.

On the last day, the program allowed participant to present their teaching plan to other participant. The PBL is somehow a very attractive learning method, which requires specific teaching plan. Through this event, Faculty of Geography could have more insight on improving PBL practices. (BKLN/June/2016).
