UGM has the privileged to host Geothermal Capacity Development (GEOCAP) Progress Meeting in UC Hotel, UGM, 4-5th April 2016. The Geocap Program is a bilateral program amongst Indonesia and The Netherlands, that engaged with at least 9 institutions, i.e., University of Utrecht, ITC-University of Twente, Universitas Indonesia, TNO Innovation for Life, Universitas Gadjah Mada, IF Technology, Institute Technology Bandung, DNV-GL Organization and Indonesian Geothermal Association. The program was funded by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and Badan Perencanaan Pembangunan Nasional Indonesia (Bappenas). This 2nd year round meeting aim at delivering shared information on each of the Working Packages (WPs) progress.
The Vice Rector for Research, Cooperation and Community Service of UGM, Prof. Dr. Suratman has officially welcomed all participants by mentioning the importance of energy within the Sustainable Development Goals. As Faculty of Geography, UGM had actively contributed within this program via Dr. Dyah Rahmawati Hizbaron, M.T, M.Sc, as member of researcher, on Work Package 1.08 and 2.08, which engaged with disaster risk management and strategic environmental assessment in the geothermal sites.
The Geocap Program engaged with three main activities, such as, research, education and community services. The output of the program are training of trainers, PhD sandwich program among institutions in Indonesia and The Netherlands also database information. The main challenge in UGM is to pursue the so-called “sandwich program for PhD” which is not yet formulated in a common structured as in Master Program.
