Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The 6th Indonesia Japan Joint Scientific Symposium 2014 is one manifestation of scientific activities conducted on an ongoing basis by a consortium of cooperation between several universities in Indonesia and Japan. Universitas Gadjah Mada, in this case represented by Prof. Dr. Suratman, M.Sc, Prof. Dr. Muh Aris Marfai, M.Sc, and Dr. Sukamdi, M.Sc has coordinated with representatives of Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Hasanudin, Universitas Udayana, Universitas Padjajaran, Institut Teknologi Bandung and Institut Pertanian Bogor together with University of Chiba Japan, University of Tsukuba and the other universities in Japan. One goal of the IJJSS 2014 activities is to provide exchange information media, data and knowledge in 24 themes. Accommodated themes in IJJSS 2014 includes antenna-microwave to vision biology, which contain new themes such as the Sustainable Economic Relations and Disaster Management. In this case, remote sensing is the most favorite theme in recent times IJJSS implementation since 2004.
The series of events began in 2014 with an agenda IJJSS Courtesy Dinner on 28 October 2014 involved 50 invited guests as universities’ delegations both domestic and foreign universities. The activity received full support from the Faculty of Geography and International Affairs Office of the Universitas Gadjah Mada, and Deputy vice president for International affairs, Chiba University.
The IJJSS 2014 scheduled in 29 October 2014 – 30 October 2014 at University Club (UC) Hotel, Universitas Gadjah Mada. This activity involving at least 90 abstracts entry, with 150 participants who followed a series of activities. The event was opened by the General Chairman of IJJSS 2014, Prof. Dr. Muh Aris Marfai, followed by Prof. Dr. Ryutaro Tateishi as Director of IJJSS, Prof. Dr. Bambang Wibawarta, M.A., official rector of Universitas Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Ryuko Niikura as representation of Chiba University and formally opened by the Vice-Rector for Cooperation and Alumni Universitas Gadjah Mada, Prof. Dr. Dwikorita Karnawati, M.Sc. IJJSS 2014 is also supported by a number of private sector, in this regard Kanto Electronic Corporation, Ty International Inc., Chiba Shoyu co., ltd.
The attendance of private sectors in this case is in line with the spirit that being developed University of Gadjah Mada, i.e. not only aim to education, research, and community service, but also harmonize academic activities with industrial activities and services that are more implementable. Furthermore, IJJSS 2014 activities are divided into six panel sessions over two consecutive days.
